In the UK Butterflies are relatively few in number, whereas there are over 2500 species of Moths. There are more daytime flying Moths than there are Butterflies in total. Pro-rata the numbers reduce in the Goyt Valley. There will be far more, certainly of moths in the Goyt Valley than I have records of. The trick and the interest is finding them.

Starting in 2026 I am becoming more involved with Lepidoptera species, Butterflies in particular initially. By more involved I mean submitting reports of sightings to the Derbyshire recorder, who is acting on behalf of the organisation Butterfly Conservation. In support of this I have set up a small section on the website. The new recording link above delivers that section.
