On October 12th. 2025, I and others spotted this lone Green Hairstreak Butterfly, not where but when it should not have been seen. A poor image but my first in an effort to establish the sighting with an image. I had already seen it once and it took off before returning and landing again. Camera shake or not, I did not care and was determined not to miss it a second time. Far from perfect but good enough for this day and the only UK unmistakeable green Butterfly.

As a result I have decided to set up a project to casually monitor the species in 2026. Just a light-hearted exercise for interest. Details of my thought processes and a related data spreadsheet will be available to anyone interested in the exercise. The two documents will be available here next year. I cannot commit to walking a regular Butterfly Survey Transect in my circumstances but I can do this. If anyone is interested now in seeing the documents in the Development stage let me know by email.
