| Newts tend to stay in water for the best part of the season and will be seen frequently (every fifteen minutes or so) rising to take a breath, which is when they are the most vulnerable. When they leave the water any old damp place will do, free from the risk of predation. |

| Characterised by the unspotted throat, this female was netted (and returned) to Pond Number Two, at SK 003 741 - Elev: 422 metres, which is acidic like all moorland ponds and preferred. Also a very peaceful place: July 20th. |
